Barnaby Whitfield

Ahna Reichman, the young woman who modeled for my portraiture class on Tuesday, is acquainted with this artist, and a big fan of his work. She urged me to look him up. I'd never seen Barnaby Whitfield's work before - it brings to mind the work of John Currin, Odd Nerdrum, Julie Heffernan...

These are all pastels on paper, though, not oils!
Found this on Youtube. Oh, God. Art openings are torture...

Jesus, what a train wreck! Great drawing skill, selling himself as a one-liner. Yet, fallen prey to the drunken collector legions (and his own ego), the video takes a turn for the worse...collectors from hell! I should repost, but I fear no-one will ever paint again!

Yikes! who was that guy? Although he did say the pastels belong under glass--yes! That was a crowed art show with unprotected pastels! I think the critic was depicted in one of Baraby's paintings.

Martha!

What strange yet imaginative work! Some of it looks really impressive!

The YouTube clip, ahhhh, that's another story entirely.

Someone should tell Barnaby that it looks quite tacky to be chewing gum while talking. Ugghh!

I don't know who's a bigger train wreck, him or that bow-tie wearing "art critic"! Ugghh again!

This is a perfect example of why alcohol should NOT be served at art openings!
