Figures, Faces, and Birds on Black Velvet

Back in the studio yesterday, continuing to work on this new project. A book of Michelangelo's sculptures providing the figures and faces, and an old Audubon calendar providing the birds. Where is this going? I'm not certain...perhaps a story quilt, perhaps soft sculptural figures, maybe a combination...
What I do know is that it feels satisfying and right to be painting on velvet. How very odd. I was
I am also looking at Larry Rivers and Faith Ringgold right now, and will post about that next...

Mike has a great idea! Have a black velvet party/art opening. People provide you with the clothing--black velvet items--they pay you $111.11 to paint on their article of clothing that they are going to wear to the party/opening--black velvet ball. You only let 111 people buy tickets, you do 111 days of painting, hire 111 musicians that play 111 songs--that last 111 minutes each. Plan it for Jan, 11--start small, but then go big and charge big Hollywood wigs $1,111,111.11 and the money would then go to starving people of the world where they don't get to wear velvet dresses. Put the Velvet Underground back together and have them play. Bring Andy Wharhol and Jimmy Hendrix back from the dead just for the concert. Then take over the world and declare peace and happiness on every living thing.

Wait-- the songs would be 111 seconds not minutes. Peace and happiness for dead things too.
