Pregnant With Ideas

Another assignment for Ling-Wen Tsai's Beginning Performance class at MECA. We had to make an extension of self piece and wear it for a day. With five children, I spent many months really looking like this, and at age 54 I still have dreams about being pregnant. My extension of self was a wire form of a pregnant belly and breasts, covered with a sheer piece of midnight blue fabric. Inside the belly and breasts were objects that represented things that I have dreamt about - one grandmother's teacup, my other grandmother's eyeglasses, a letter from my sister Sue, feathers, a hummingbird figurine...
