Wednesday afternoon arts and crafts class at my granddaughter Cecilia's house! The past two weeks we've been making relief prints with Soft Kut and water based inks. Terrific group of kids - great fun!

Simple Cards

One day last week I was home in Woolwich and did not need to go out for any reason, so I decided to give myself the challenge of making Christmas cards from materials that I had on hand. All my printing and art supplies were at my studio in Portland, so I put on my thinking cap and looked around. I've always loved the image on this vintage Cromwell aluminum tray that I inherited from my Mom, and I figured, ooh, I could make rubbings from that...

I found a stick of graphite in the crayon box, and tucked away in a drawer, I found a stack of Miller's Falls onion skin writing paper that had been my Aunt Carolyn's. Some greens from the back yard pines, a little felt, ribbon and thread, my pinking sheers, hot glue gun, and trusty old singer sewing machine all helped me to pull together these simple, fragrant greeting cards. Merry Making

Indoor/outdoor fun yesterday with my son Eben, daughter-in-law Tracey, daughter Kaitlyn, and Eben and Tracey's two little ones, my grandchildren, Cecilia, 5, and Calvin, 3. We made decorations, went sledding, and worked together buliding a snow castle. Tracey told us the sweetest story. She said that when they put up their tree a couple of nights ago, Calvin said, "It's so beautiful it makes my heart shake." Out of the mouth of babes...

Happy Thanksgiving!

My family had alot of fun making these turkey name tags yesterday while we were waiting for the real turkey to finish cooking. They were a true collaboration, from design to production! Recipe: two brown oak leaves (the stems become the legs), a colored paper oval for the body, a fan shape for the inner tail, and a turkey head, plus a red felt wattle. Color feathers on the fan shape, then glue on the wattle. Stitch all layers together. We also attached a piece of white paper to the back of each name tag so that we could write what we are thankful for.
