Personal makes the work so much more powerful. One wonders, 'Is it more courageous to let others see into this inner domain or, to look one's self?' Whichever, great work.
There was a TV series on Bravo Network, 'Artwork: The Next Great Artist,' that I enjoyed even though I'm not much for this type of programming but, because it had guests such as Andres Seranno, and was hosted by Simone Du Purey. One theme that ran through all the critiques of the emerging artist's work by the established artists was, 'make it personal.' Food for thought.
If you're titling it Eighteen here is some inspiration from A. Cooper, takes me way back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME27Mntt3Ro&feature=related

Hi Brad

Great question! I'm gaining the courage to make my work more personal - it helps to be 56 and (mostly!) grounded! From this many years away, I can tell these stories almost like they happened to someone else!
Do you know I never did listen much to Alice Cooper - that's a terrific teen anthem! Here's an 18 song I do recall:

Well, there's also (not eighteen but, seventeen) by Janis Ian. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypn9oKaO-3E Grammy winner 1975.

Hi Martha,
Love this series... and the inclusion of the personal photographs. I remember some previous posts about this man.

Personal can be rough, it does make it much more powerful though. (Hi Brad!) I always enjoy your faces and gestures.

Happy turkey day!
