Nakeds or Nudes?


Or are there more than 2 categories? Two figure studies from my Life Drawing class with Joe Begnaud at MECA during my freshman year.

Love the vibration of the orange reflected light on the skin in the top piece. And the contrast between the graphic pattern and the open, flat, pink tone of the model's torso and hip in the bottom piece is a wonderful pictorial device.

Oh yeah, to stay on topic, I would say they are both nudes, though one could argue the top one as a little more "naked." There's more of an emphasis on the model's face and expression/personality in that one.

Yes, so if there is information about the personality of the subject, does this a Naked make?
Are Nudes more monumental, universal? Are Nakeds about individuals with flaws?
