Georges Rouault

I teach Mixed Media portraiture on Tuesday mornings this semester and today we worked with charcoal, ink, brushes, and a bit of color. Some of the students' work brought to mind the work of Georges Rouault. Here are a few of his prints and paintings. That bold thick black line with those jewel toned colors. So rich! He was trained in the art of stained glass. These make me think of Ashley Bryan's stained glass stations of the cross...

With all the white outdoors at this time of year and today's pale gray sky, my eyeballs are starved for color - looking at these is a good remedy!
FINAL MARKDOWN on ALL VALENTINE ITEMS in my ETSY SHOP!

Very bold and beautiful! Reminds me of cards--the king or the joker--he could have his own set.

yes, these do look like cards! these are all etchings with aquatint (gorgeous!) except for the bottom piece which is a painting titled The Old King.
