Tuesday Morning

My Tuesday morning Mixed Media Portraiture class at MECA. I think it's almost as much fun watching people draw as it is to draw! This group is terrific. The assignment was to go to the library and randomly grab a book off the shelf and open it. We made photocopies of the open pages and the students came back to the classroom and did self-portraits incorporating their found imagery somehow...

Mandalas

I found this old photo of me taken by my father in the fall of 1969, when I was fifteen. I am in my basement in Warwick, RI, working on a mandala for my 10th grade art class. I think it's the only one I ever designed. Both of my daughters, Kaitlyn and Lisbeth, make mandalas now. Ah, the circle of Life. What goes around, comes around...

Gustav Klimt Score

Yesterday I scored another great art book from the Joanne Waxman Library at MECA - this book of Gustav Klimt's drawings. It was $3 on their used books shelf! As I've stated here before, I have amassed quite a nice collection of wonderful old art books for pin money from that shelf!

Klimt's drawings are spare and precise, yet sensuous. They flow so beautifully...

G'Mornin'!

Three happy sights first thing on a February morning ~ a bright yellow bouquet of ranunculus, my Elsa Beskow placemat, and my favorite eggs of all, these Easter Egger Chicken eggs from Eggleston's Farm in Alfred, Maine. I buy these at Whole Foods here in Portland. Aren't they pretty?? They make me gasp when I open the carton...
