Bacon's Studio

There are some who prefer to operate out of chaos. Francis Bacon was one. I read that he wiped his brushes on his studio curtains (you can see the paint smears on his door...)
I also read that his living space was the opposite of his studio; that it was stylish, organized and clean.

So I guess all those tortured figures he painted are psychological portraits of the various studio assistants that couldn't take it anymore!

ha! i can't imagine anyone darkening that doorway besides francis!
i've read a couple of bacon's biographies. he has a history of significant sexual abuse and was (perhaps subsequently) profoundly alcoholic...
my take on those tortured figures is that they are all self-portraits.
